What We Stand For
Winthrop Viking Youth Cheer is a team organization for children ages 5 and up (must be 5 by September 1). Participants are expected to bring enthusiasm, spirit, and commitment to regular practices as they learn cheers, chants, and teamwork.
Cheerleading is an athletic sport that builds strength, stamina, and confidence through motions, jumps, stunting, tumbling, and dance. Squads are organized by age and skill level to ensure safety, team compatibility, and strong skill development.
The goal of WVYC is to provide quality cheer instruction while building a strong, dynamic youth program that creates a lasting foundation for future Winthrop cheerleaders.

When does the fall cheer registration close?
Fall registration typically concludes in mid-July to ensure uniforms are ordered and received before the start of the season in August.
What equipment is provided versus required by the athlete?
The program provides uniforms and pompoms. Athletes are responsible for purchasing their own cheer sneakers, briefs, and practice wear.
What are the age requirements for the program?
Our youth program is open to children between the ages of 5 and 14, divided into teams to foster growth and safety.
Is previous cheer or gymnastics experience required?
No prior experience is necessary! Our coaches focus on foundational skills and progression for all levels of athletes.
